Even after 3000 photos I'm still struggling with the fact that the 5D Mark II only has nine autofocus points. That could be enough, but, they are all pretty much in the middle! And I am used to choosing a point closest to the thing I want sharp for each photo. And now I feel insecure about the sharpness when re- composing after focussing. I love to work with high F-numbers, it's not too bad then. But sometimes you can't do that. Damned! This is the one and only downside I've found with this camera so far. But it's a serious downside! Still, it will have to do for this poor photographer for the next five to ten years or so. ... :-))
Yes, of course. But the focus points of the 5D Mark II are all located in the middle of the frame. I need focus points who are located more at the edges of the frame. For example: I want to focus on a person's eyes. But, I don't want the person's face in the middle of my photo! So I have to focus and move my camera to re- compose, so that the face is not in the middle anymore. But, changing the camera's distance to the subject after focus = lose focus! It's not so easy to move the camera to the left or right and up or down, without changing the distance to the subject. And if you are working with small F- numbers there isn't much depth of field anyway. Move the camera back or forth just a tiny little bit will mean you lost your focus.
Hmmmmmmm i forget you other remarks of this guy, at the time we saw eachother (at least) i had a bit more hair :-)
Anyhow, are you pictures sharp when you just use your len(ses) in the middle of the pictures using the focus points???????? 5d's are well known for off focus problems that can be corredted for some (more expensive) lenses. Is only a gues i think you alreadu did red about it on the internet (or not)
I read everything I could find about the 5D Mark II before I bought it. Of course, a more expensive lens like the Canon 50mm F1.4 would give a bit sharper photos. But that's not really the problem, the focus points will stay the same. And all my money went to the camera. The Canon 50mm F1.8 I always work with for 2 years already will have to do a little while longer! :-)) The sharpness is not too bad in normal circumstances. It's just annoying and unpractical. But I guess I will get used to it in the long run. Thanks for thinking with me though, L!

Strange thing is that (at least on the concert pictures) i can not recognize you use a big lens opening.What is it 1.8,2.8. or so? Don't forget to look into this back focus issues and yes the disadvantage of the mark II is that you need very goof lenses to gain anything on picture quality compared to other (cheaper) models with small sensors and less resolution. Unluckily my gear is stolen 2 years ago on Cuba, had some good lenses shit. Hmmmm the face, this guy is much more ugly than me :-)
It's the facial expression... But, maybe don't see it because you have different looks on your face when you look in the mirror... :-P These photos are made at F9.5- F11- F13. That's a rather small lens opening, big F- numbers. On a full frame camera you have some less depth of field. These photos are actually quite sharp. If you consider hey are made at Iso 3200. Photos on high Iso look less sharp.
I am happy about the quality of the photos in general. Look at the photos of the artists, not too bad I think. They are made at iso 200 or 300. The 50mm F1.8 is not too bad. But of course, better lens would surely give even better quality. It's of course the limitations of the lens you see, not the limitations of the 5D. I wasn't talking about any photos in particular. Just about the annoying 9 auto focus points, all located in the middle of the viewfinder. I often have too much space above the heads because I am scared to move my camera too much while re- composing after focusing. But I will get used to it I think.

thre is a way to freeze the focus point you need, for sure
